Covid-19 Update:
Greetings my dreadlings, I’ve decided to cancel all upcoming appointments for obvious reasons, it seems illogical to reschedule everything when there is a good chance that the restrictions could be extended and I would have to do it all over again. As such I’ve made a chronological list of my current appointments and will contact each of you in turn to reschedule when the restrictions are eventually lifted, if you don’t currently have an appointment you won’t be on the list, but if you would like one, once things ease, then please comment on this post and I will add you to my waiting list.
I hope you and all your loved ones are keeping well, many thanks, take care, Dreadmonkey
Welcome to Dreadmonkey, Dreadmonkey has been going for 15 years. In that time hundreds of heads have been knotted up, and many matted messes rescued.
Over the years I’ve encountered a lot of misconception & stigma. I hope in producing this site that I can clarify some of the misunderstanding and reduce some of the stigma surrounding dreads. As well as giving free advice and offering our services to a wider range of people wanting dreads or needing theirs maintained.
I’ve had my locks for 18 years, initially done at an African salon. Back combed, coated with beeswax then permed. This technique doesn’t work well with western hair types, or indeed on afro hair. To remedy the resulting mess I went to a salon in Camden, London specialising in dreads. They did a good job but at £50/hour it was not going to be a repeat visit, and now they charge £70/hour. As such I took it upon myself to learn how to dread. After a lot of persistence, trying different techniques and practicing on my own dreads I started dreading friends. Demand got stronger so I advertised locally and now have many happy clients of all ages, who have had locks for years and come back for maintenance when it gets too out of control.
